Bachata Underground is a refreshing compilation of Bachatas which run the entire spectrum of styles within the genre. Some lean heavily towards R & B; others are more urban, some more traditional; there is a Bachata-Ranchera. There are male vocalists, a female vocalist and various duos. Silvio Mora, known for his above-ground hits as “Mambero” makes his bachata debut with “Amor amor amor” which features Bryan Steele’s burning R & B tenor sax in contrast with a traditional approach to the style. Charlie Mosquea, historic composer from the Dominican Republic, also makes his debut as bachatero performing a song by Tony Lopez as well as his own composition “Dilema por un hombre.” Charlie also penned “Hombres” as performed by Michelle Manzo. Ingco Crew, Santiago’s finest urban group, also makes its bachata debut with “Por qué?” Baby Q, whose urban merengue “Vete” ranks number one on French radio, contibutes “Aún te recuerdo,” an urban bachata in performed in duo with M.V. Ephrem J from Curacao contributes “Amor en la luna.” New York-based budding star, Amares contributes a poetential radio hit - “Dimelo delante de ella.” El Cupido de la Bachata brings us “Dame cabeza,” already a radio hit in the Northeast. Singer/songwriter of note Enrique Feliz contributes “Galleticas de avena.” Ariel, a gifted artist, resident of New York City, performs “Perderme en tu mirada,” a song penned by the talented Cuban artist, Daniel Martin. Several tracks were produced in-house by Carlos Martin Carle for Premium Latin; some were co-produced by Angel Fernandez, musical director for Marc Anthony and superb musical producer, including “Cuéntame” by LD & Jhoni. Others were written and produced by the multi-faceted artist/performers.
In summation, Bachata Underground celebrates new directions in a style which commenced as a folkloric musical form, consumed exclusively by working and lower class neighborhoods in the Dominican Republic. However, the strength and flexibility of the genre eventually pushed Bachata to the forefront where it traveled the world, with spin-off sub-genres that have been internationally acclaimed.

A very important note: Bachata Underground reflects the essence of Premium Latin Music, Inc.’s agenda as a music business player. Premium believes in discovering and developing budding, creative and unique talent in the tradition of the roving A & R guy of yesteryear – with notable successes including Elvis Martinez, Wason and, of course, Aventura. We hope that at least one phenomenal artist will rise to fame based on Bachata Underground! That, of course, will be up to you to decide.
